I have found that there is not a distinct boundary between the visual arts and scientific research, but that by exploring each, we may see nature with more clarity and solve scientific problems with more creativity. This website is dedicated to those joint pursuits and the people who are inspirations and collaborators. I hope you enjoy it!

We study the ecology and evolution of phenotypic variation. What selection pressures lead to variation between sexes and between species? Our research focuses on the evolution of color and behavior in two damselfly systems, Megalagrion (endemic Hawaiian damselflies) and Calopteryx (Jewelwing damselflies of the US mainland and Canada).
